The safety of students abroad is of the upmost importance to the O’Neill School. We work diligently to ensure you remain as safe as possible at home on the IU campus as well as abroad. However, as with any new experience, there are inherent risks.
To prepare you to circumvent these risks, you are required to complete a health and safety course online. Additionally, you must attend a pre-departure orientation session where safety information and protocols specific to your program/host country destination are discussed. At this orientation, you will be given an emergency card to carry with you while abroad. This card contains information such as the location of the nearest U.S. Embassy/Consulate, local emergency phone numbers, and how to contact in country staff.
While abroad, should you ever feel unsafe, you should immediately contact in country staff – whether that be host university staff/exchange coordinators or IU program staff.
