J-1 Student Visa
All international exchange students will be required to obtain a J-1 student visa before beginning their studies at IU. After you have been notified of admission, you will need to pay your SEVIS fee. IU’s Office of International Services will then issue and send you a DS-2019 immigration document. You will use this DS-2019 to apply for a J-1 visa at the U.S. embassy in your home country. This typically involves an in-person interview at the embassy. Please note: Students must submit financial verification of approximately $7,500USD for each anticipated exchange semester of study.
Please wait until you have confirmation from IU’s Office of International Services before applying for a J-1 visa.
Detailed information about the steps required to apply and obtain a J-1 visa stamp can be found on the IU’s Office of International Services website.
