  • Science Po - Reims

Sciences Po

The Paris Institute of Political Studies, commonly known as "Sciences Po," is a prestigious French university based in Paris with six regional campuses throughout France. O’Neill undergraduate students who participate in the Sciences Po exchange will live and attend classes at the Reims campus in the beautiful, historical city of Reims, France.

Each academic year, the O'Neill School can send a cohort of six undergraduates to Sciences Po on this exchange. Keep this in mind as you are applying and deciding between a fall or spring semester exchange.

Application Closed

The Fall 25 Semester Exchange application will open January 1.

Students should work with their O’Neill academic advisor to determine which semester will fit best for them to study at Sciences Po. Below are the general timeframes of Sciences Po’s academic calendar. Please use these time frames to help in planning your semester abroad:

Fall Semester: Late August - Mid December
Spring Semester: Mid January - Mid May

Academic calendar

Sciences Po has a strong focus on the social sciences and humanities, but also offers courses in fields such as policy, law, and journalism. The majority of courses are offered in English and there are many offered in French as well. You do not need French language skills in order to do the Sciences Po exchange, however Sciences Po does require that exchange students take a French language course designated by a placement test. You will be in class with local French students as well as other international exchange students.

You can view course offerings from prior semesters as examples of coursework available at Sciences Po as an exchange student. Although course offerings are similar from year to year, all courses are subject to change:

  • Fall Semester
  • Spring Semester

Additionally, Sciences Po offers a unique certificate option for students. You have the option to take a certain selection of courses to earn a certificate in Social Studies and Humanities. There is no obligation to complete the certificate program, it is merely an option. If it better suits your interests, please feel free to mix and match classes from the lists above.

We will work with you on approving courses that will count towards your degree requirements.

You must enroll in 25-30 ECTS of coursework during your semester abroad.

If you drop below the required enrollment while abroad, you will be awarded F grades for the missing credits per IU policy. Please maintain required enrollment!

You may apply if you:

  • are an admitted O’Neill major or minor
  • have completed your sophomore year of study
  • have at least a 3.0 cumulative and O’Neill GPA; 3.3 GPA preferred

Sciences Po-Reims provides a variety of student housing options, all located off campus but still near enough to walk to class or downtown. Locations are from .5 to 2 miles from campus and depending on amenities, prices will vary.

Visit the Sciences Po-Reims housing website and click “Reims Campus” for more information.

Semester tuition will cost the same as if you were studying at IU – you will register and pay for 15 credits at your normal IU tuition rate (in-state or out-of-state) through your bursar account. No tuition will be paid to Sciences Po.

In addition to tuition, you will be responsible for covering your own overseas expenses including airfare, food, and housing. Roughly $1,200 dollars a month should cover food, housing, fun, study materials, and incidentals. Your biggest cost variable will be housing.

Estimated breakdown of expected costs

Merit-based and need-based scholarships are available for students participating in O'Neill exchanges.

O'Neill scholarship application deadlines are the same as the program application deadlines. For spring semester exchanges, the deadline is September 1. For fall semester exchanges, the deadline is February 1.

Information regarding scholarship eligibility, applying, and additional funding available, can be found on the Understanding Your Overseas Financial Aid Options page.

Learn more about living in Reims

Description of the video:

00:01
Probably the thing I like the best about Reims...
00:05
What do I enjoy about living in Reims..?
00:07
I enjoy living in Reims because it's a big city,
00:11
but it's not too big so that you would feel lost in there..
00:14
It's cozy, it's cute.
00:16
The city of Reims is really good to learn to live on your own
00:20
because it's big enough to have cinemas and theaters,
00:24
while being not too big.
00:26
You've got the campus, which is where you have all the academics and the student life
00:31
but you can still go out to Place d'Erlon to take a drink, or go to the cinema
00:39
You also have Paris by train
00:42
Reims is a very historical city, there are a lot of historical buildings and places to see.
00:48
The cathedral, on particular, I never get tired of looking at it.
00:52
Outside of my bedroom window, it's right there
00:55
I feel like if I were in Paris, for example, I would get sort of lost in everything.
00:59
It's quite overwhelming.
01:00
But in Reims, because it's such a cozy city,
01:03
I really feel like I'm a part of a French city.
01:07
What makes this campus unique is the mix between
01:10
the historical, 17th century Jesuit college and the modern facilities that are mixed with it.
01:17
That creates a very comfortable and spacious environment to study in
01:21
but the historical site is still preserved, so it's really beautiful.
01:26
I am a particular fan of the old library
01:28
You walk in and you realize you're just a small blip in the the long, long history of this campus.
01:35
Here at Sciences Po we have the opportunity and the chance
01:38
to have teachers who come from everywhere in the world.
01:41
Sciences Po is an international school
01:43
I mean the figures says it: 46% of the students are international students.
01:49
Here at Reims it's easy to measure that.
01:52
Everyone is from a different part of the world,
01:55
even from multiple parts of the world.
01:58
It's an incredibly international environment.
02:00
Studying at Sciences Po in Reims is really special because
02:03
you're living in a city with so much history and culture,
02:06
while at the same time you're part of Sciences Po,
02:08
you carrying on its traditions and its student experience.
02:10
It's incredible to be a part of it.
